KENNETH H THOMAS NECB 2017 Kenneth H. Thomas, Ph.D. is the nation’s leading expert and author on the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). He has testified in Congress, advised regulators, trained federal bank examiners, and written numerous articles and two books on CRA, including The CRA Handbook (www.CRAHandbook.com); many of its recommendations were implemented into current CRA regulations.  Most recently he was asked by both the Treasury Department and the Congressional Black Caucus for his input on CRA reforms.
 
He has worked with banks, regulators, and even community groups in a consulting capacity since the 1977 CRA law was established. He has also launched and acted as Chair of the Board of Trustees of two different nationwide CRA investment mutual funds, including The Community Development Fund (www.CommunityDevelopmentFund.com) launched in April 2016 (ticker CDCDX), which includes several South Jersey banks as investors.
 
Dr. Thomas has been on the board of a community bank for nearly 20 years, and it has received seven straight Outstanding CRA ratings from three different federal and state bank regulators.
 
Dr. Thomas received a B.S.B.A. from University of Florida; an M.B.A. from University of Miami; and, an M.A. and Ph.D. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he taught banking and finance for 42 years.
 
He is a regular speaker and writer in the banking industry and has appeared frequently on ABC radio, Bloomberg radio and TV, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Nightly Business News, and NPR.

Profile

The South Jersey Bankers Association (SJBA) is a 40+ year old regional bankers association. The association was formed to provide a forum for bankers to share ideas and address issues concerning the financial services industry. SJBA currently maintains 19 member banks, 18 vendors and 400+ individual members. Well known high profile speakers join us at dinner meetings, where they present their ideas and perspectives. The dinner meetings are also excellent opportunities for bankers and others concerned with the banking industry to network and share ideas. The South Jersey Bankers Association also conducts educational seminars to enhance the member knowledge about specific banking services and strategies.
